NOTE:

If this is your first time running the BookRotate mod or you have yet to edit your save, follow the directions entitled 'Instructions: Skillbooks.esd'

If you are upgrading from v1.x and have already edited your save, follow the directions entitled 'Instructions: SkillBooks-Tribunal Upgrade.esd'

How does it work?
================
In some cases, users have reported that the mod is not working correctly and some books are not rotating.

This problem related to using the mod with previously saved games. It occurs with books that teach you a skill.

Once you read a book, a reference to that fact is stored in your save. This is so that if you read the book again you will not get another skill increase.

Unfortunately, when this information is stored, the game not only saves the fact that you have had a skill increase; it saves other additional information about that book - which includes whether or not any scripts are attached to the book at that point.

If you read a book and learn a skill before installing the Book Rotate mod, the game stores that fact and also stores the fact that, at that point, there is no script attached to the book. This information takes precedence over all other. When you install the mod and load up your save, the game looks at the save and thinks "OK - this book has been read so this skill has been learnt and there are no scripts attached to the book". No matter if the mod may be telling it otherwise, the game will choose to take the information from the save. Hence, the rotation will not work.

Below are instructions for using TESAME (included) to edit your save game and make those pesky books rotate :o)

Instructions: Skillbooks.esd
=============================

If you are following these instructions, it means that you have never edited your save before. If you have previously edited your save, jump straight to 'Instructions: Skillbooks-Tribunal Upgrade.esd' below.

1 - *MAKE A BACKUP OF THE SAVE WHICH YOU ARE GOING TO EDIT*

This way, if you make a mistake, you will not lose your save. I take no responsibility for people losing their saves because they haven't made a backup.

2 - First you are going to load up your save game.

Load up TESAME. Move the mouse to the menu bar at the top of the screen and click on 'Mods' then 'Open..'.

At the bottom of the open dialogue, where it says 'Files of type:', select 'All Files (*.*)'.

Navigate to your Morrowind/Saves directory. You should see your save games, all with an .ess extension. Select the save you wish to edit - the one you made a backup of - and click 'Open'.

3 - Depending on the size of your save and the speed of your PC, the save may take a while to open up in TESAME so be patient.

Once it has loaded, you should see 3 columns in the main window - Type, ID and Name. Scroll down until you see the word 'Book' in the 'Type' column. You should see a list of books, these are the skill increasing books which you have read ingame and with which the rotation does not work.

4 - NOW YOU MUST WRITE DOWN THE NAMES YOU SEE HERE. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU GET THESE CORRECT.

It is easier to write down the ID of the book rather than the Name. There are 27 different skills to increase and 5 books for each skill so if you have quite an advanced character with a big collection then the list could be quite long.

As an example, you could note them down like this:

Enchant - 1,2,4
Destruction - 2,3
Alteration - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc.

Work your way down the list until you have noted the names of all the books.

5 - Once you have written them down, you are going to delete the references to them from your save.

LEFT Click on the first book in the list. Then scroll down to the last book. Hold down the SHIFT button and LEFT click the bottom book. This will cause all the books to become highlighted in BLUE.

Press the SPACE BAR. This will select the books which have been highlighted and their background will turn BLACK.

Move the mouse to the menu bar and click on 'Items' then 'Delete'. All references to the books should disappear from the screen.

6 - Next you must save your edited file.

Go again to the menu bar and click on 'Mods' then 'Save as..'.

At the bottom of the save dialogue, where it says 'Files of type:', select 'All Files (*.*).

Where it says 'File name:', delete the 'Clean' prefix. For example: it will say 'Clean xxxxx.ess' where xxxxx is the name of your save. We want to overwrite the existing save as WE HAVE ALREADY MADE A BACKUP - HAVEN'T WE??.

Delete the 'Clean' prefix and click 'Save'. It will ask you if you want to overwrite your save - click 'Yes'.

7 - Again go to the menu bar and click on 'Mods' then 'Open..'.

Navigate to the 'SkillBooks.esd' file which comes with this zip. Select it and click 'Open'.

A list of books will appear in the main screen. These are all the skill increasing books in the game, some you may have read and some you may not.

You must now select from this list all the books which you wrote down earlier. To do this, RIGHT click the appropriate books. They should turn BLACK when selected.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ONLY SELECT THE BOOKS WHICH ARE IN YOUR WRITTEN LIST. After selecting all the books in your list, DOUBLE CHECK to make sure you have not missed any or have not selected any extra.

8 - You must now save these selected books to a new file.

Go to the menu bar. Click on 'Items' then 'Save as..'.

Name your file 'MyBooks.esd' and click on 'Save'. You have now saved all your listed books as a separate file.

9 - Again you must open your save - the one you edited earlier.

Go to the menu bar and click on 'Mods' then 'Open..'.

Navigate to your Morrowind/Saves directory and open the appropriate save. Again, it may take a while to load.

10 - You are now going to merge the data from 'MyBooks.esd' into your save.

Go to the menu bar and click on 'Items' then 'Insert'.

Navigate to the 'MyBooks.esd' file and open it.

A window will pop up telling you 'Inserted MyBooks.esd'.

11 - Again you must save the file.

Go to the menu bar and click 'Mods' then 'Save as..'.

Again, at the bottom of the save dialogue, where it says 'Files of type:', select 'All Files (*.*).

Again, delete the 'Clean' prefix and overwrite your save.

That's the hardest bit completed.

12 - Now start up Morrowind and load up the save which you have been tinkering with.

ONCE IT HAS LOADED, IMMEDIATELY SAVE IT AGAIN.

Now load up this most recent save.

Those pesky books should now be rotating properly :o)

Instructions: Skillbooks-Tribunal Upgrade.esd
================================================

If you are following these instructions, it means that you were previously using BookRotate v1.x and have, at some point in the past, edited your save using the instructions above. Now that you have upgraded to v4.x, you must edit your save again to fix some books that were added by Tribunal. Follow the steps below:

1 - *MAKE A BACKUP OF THE SAVE WHICH YOU ARE GOING TO EDIT*

This way, if you make a mistake, you will not lose your save. I take no responsibility for people losing their saves because they haven't made a backup.

2 - First you are going to load up your save game.

Load up TESAME.Move the mouse to the menu bar at the top of the screen and click on 'Mods' then 'Open..'.

4 - You must now look for the following books in your save:

BookSkill_Alteration3 - Sithis
bookskill_mysticism1 - The Firsthold Revolt
bookskill_restoration2 - Notes on Racial Phylogeny
BookSkill_Alchemy1 - A Game at Dinner
BookSkill_Armorer1 - The Armorer's Challenge
BookSkill_Heavy Armor3 - Chimarvamidium
BookSkill_Blunt Weapon2 - The Importance of Where
BookSkill_Axe1 - The Third Door
bookskill_security1 - The Locked Room
bookskill_security5 - Surfeit of Thieves
bookskill_light armor3 - Lord Jornibret's Last Dance
bookskill_marksman3 - Vernaccus and Bourlor
BookSkill_Destruction5_open - Mystery of Talara, Part 3
BookSkill_Axe5_open - 36 Lessons of Vivec, Sermon 16

If you find any of the above books, write down which ones are present in your save. If none of the above books are in your save, you do not have to edit again and can stop here.

5 - Once you have written down which of the above books are present in your save, you are going to delete the references to them from the save.

To do this, RIGHT click the appropriate books. They should turn BLACK when selected.

Navigate to the 'SkillBooks-Tribunal Upgrade.esd' file which comes with this zip. Select it and click 'Open'.

A list of books will appear in the main screen. These are the skill increasing books added by Tribunal and the list will be identical to the one above.

Name your file 'MyBooks-Tribunal.esd' and click on 'Save'.

10 - You are now going to merge the data from 'MyBooks-Tribunal.esd' into your save.

Go to the menu bar and click on 'Items' then 'Insert'.

Navigate to the 'MyBooks-Tribunal.esd' file and open it.

A window will pop up telling you 'Inserted MyBooks-Tribunal.esd'.

Congratulations, you have upgraded your save :o)
